ProxLB at Dutch Proxmox Day 2025 – Automated Load Balancing for Proxmox
():On September 25th, 2025, the Dutch Proxmox Day returns to Ede, Netherlands—bringing together Proxmox users, operators, and developers from across Europe. This community-driven conference focuses entirely on Proxmox VE, real-world cluster operations, and modern virtualization workflows.
Organized by Tuxis B.V., a long-time contributor to the Proxmox ecosystem, the event is completely free to attend thanks to its sponsors CT and KPN. The Dutch Proxmox Day has become one of the most important Proxmox-focused community events in Europe.
What to Expect at Dutch Proxmox Day 2025
This year’s speaker lineup is packed with well-known names:
From technical deep-dives to real-world cluster challenges, you’ll hear firsthand how Proxmox is being used across industries – from data centers to satellites.
ProxLB Talk: Automated Load Balancing for Proxmox Clusters
Okay, here’s something I’m personally excited about: this year’s conference will feature a talk on my personal project ProxLB, my own solution to a big gap in the Proxmox world: automated workload balancing.
What is ProxLB?
ProxLB is a lightweight, policy-driven scheduler designed to bring automated workload balancing to Proxmox VE clusters. Think of it as Proxmox’s answer to VMware’s DRS (Distributed Resource Scheduler) built in a flexible, open, and modular way. You can learn more about its architecture, configuration, and real-world use cases on the ProxLB project page.
You can also find some more insights about ProxLB on my personal project page.
Key Features of ProxLB
ProxLB comes with some great features that you might still miss in Proxmox VE:
- Policy-Based VM Placement – Use YAML-defined rules to control how workloads are placed across storage tiers, node groups, or hardware profiles.
- Affinity / Anti-Affinity Rules – Want some VMs to stick together? Or keep certain ones apart (e.g. for HA or compliance reasons)? ProxLB supports both. Pinning VMs to a host or a group of hosts, similar to maintenance settings, is also supported.
- Rule-Based Placement – Define your own scheduling rules using simple YAML, such as “All database VMs should prefer SSD nodes,” and let ProxLB handle the logic.
- Pluggable Architecture – Integrates smoothly with existing Proxmox clusters with no need to replace anything. It runs alongside your existing setup using the Proxmox API.
ProxLB solves this without locking you into heavy commercial tools or complicated orchestration layers. It’s lightweight, open-source, and made for real-life Proxmox use cases.
Why You Should Come
There's a catch why you should come...
- Free admission
- Real tech talks — not just sales pitches
- Meet the Proxmox core team and other power users
- ProxLB talk with a chance to ask questions directly
Whether you are running small Proxmox clusters or operating large-scale production environments, Dutch Proxmox Day 2025 offers practical insights, real-world experience, and direct access to the Proxmox community.
Sounds interesting? Here you can find more information and also sign up for the event. See you there!
