so, ich glaube ich muss mal meinen linux benutzer resetten

der läuft nun seit irgend 5 jahren durch mehrere distro-updates und neuinstallationen durch - da hat sich ne ganze menge müll angesammelt

dazu kommt dass ich damals in einer hauruck aktion zu linux desktop gewechselt bin - mal hier was konfiguriert, mal dort n vm image gespeichert - ohne klares konzept von wie-was-wo

ich könnte auch einfach einen neuen benutzer erstellen, aber ich will die 1000 behalten 🙈 😅

Here is what I know: downloading a Linux installation image files are safer because every piece of torrent files are checksummed. There is a privacy concern because torrenting files expose IP address, but you can use a VPN to mask your IP address.

I am helping torrenting three distinctive Linux distribution installation image files. Debian, Elementary OS, and MX Linux. I wish I can help torrenting AntiX installation image files, but they have too many torrent files and I know the limitation of my internet connectivity.

Wusstet ihr, dass `grep` seinen Namen von einem `ed`-Befehl hat? `g/re/p` = "global / regular expression / print". Also buchstäblich ein Akronym aus nem Texteditor-Kommando aus den 70ern. 🐧

Enterprise-#Linux hat diese Woche eine Schlappe erlitten, weil Suses Hauptwerkzeug zum Upgrade von SLES 15.7 zum grossen Sprung auf das tolle SLES 16 noch ungeeignet ist. Auch das Installer-Medium entfällt, ausser man verwendet Opensuse
. Upgrade geht nur mit Internet-Repositories von Suse, oder mit dem Repo-Proxy RMT.
Wir kauften aber den SUMA mit allen Repos nicht dafür, um ihn mit Suses Internet zu umgehen. Man versprach uns in 3 Monaten Abhilfe. 1 Jahr nach Sles 16 Ankündigung

When I install Elementary OS, I have a thought of using "sudo apt install synaptic" so I can download and install packages through Synaptic Package Manager (like I used to love doing on my previous distro). However, after using eOS for a while and still not doing that, I start to think of "just because I can, doesn't mean I should" and I don't do that. Elementary OS already feels like it is designed this way. Packages only acceptable through AppCenter and Flathub (at least if being done through the official distro package manager that is called as "AppCenter").

I wonder about how the "Background Apps" being identified. I wonder if this is somehow related to the acceptable apps (from AppCenter and Flathub repositories). Do apps being shown on the "Background Apps" are already identified apps from these two "official" means? Also, as a matter of habit, I still reguarly do "sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade" and "flatpak update" on the terminal. I do that reguarly to keep my system updated and I rarely use the package manager "AppCenter" to check for updates. Therefore, as a thought of experimentation, I wonder if it is possible to use "sudo apt synaptic", and use Synaptic exclusively to install and manage packages. Will doing this have any effect on the stability of Pantheon desktop or the Elementary OS? Will it still functional if I use Synpatic exclusively and not using the AppCenter? This is just a thought, but I'm not doing this right now.

The thing that I love about Elementary OS and Patheon desktop is the ability of the system that "knows" what sort of front-end GUI apps that is running in the background... I keep wondering how Elementary identifies these apps. Is it the ability of the distro (Elementary OS) or the desktop (Pantheon DE)?

If I do a dual boot of some kind of Ubuntu and Windows, do I get to keep the Windows part as it is now or is it a new installation of Windows? And if I want to make the full switch to Ubuntu, do I then get to keep the installation from the dual boot or do I have to install Ubuntu anew?

Wollte nur mal kurz mitteilen, dass mein Laptop mit CachyOS jetzt fertig eingerichtet ist mit allen Programmen, die ich gerne haben möchte. Alle Programme, die ich haben wollte, gab es ohne Probleme (das ist auch nix spezielles, allenfalls vllt PDFMixTool und Zotero, ansonsten so Sachen wie Signal, Element, Obsidian usw.). Und - es läuft alles einwandfrei, sehr schnell, ohne sich irgendwo aufzuhängen. Auch seit der Installation des OS nun schon zwei Kernel-Updates gehabt, die beide problemlos über die Bühne gingen. Alles paletti!
KDEPlasma funktioniert wieder so, wie es soll - das hatte ja zuletzt unter KDE Neon nur noch an jeder Ecke gehakt (Elemente wurden nicht mehr richtig dargestellt, Netzwerk Manager hat dauernd die Netzverbindung gekappt und das Passwort vergessen, Elemente in Programmen waren auch nicht mehr richtig dargestellt usw.).
Denke, wenn man einen einigermaßen neuen Laptop hat, ist CachyOS wirklich eine gute Wahl (aber vmtl nicht für Linux-Unerfahrene), bisher bin ich sehr begeistert. 😍🤩

Egal ob Windows oder macOS: Beides kommt mir nicht mehr ins Haus. Der Nachwuchs wächst direkt mit Linux auf. Wer Kindern heute ein Betriebssystem beibringt, sollte ihnen nicht zuerst zeigen, wie man mit Werbung, Telemetrie und Kontozwang lebt. Die großen Desktop-Systeme entwickeln sich immer stärker weg vom Werkzeug und hin zur überwachten Plattform. Was früher Betriebssystem war, ist heute oft nur noch Überwachungssoftware mit Desktop-Oberfläche. Linux ist nicht perfekt, aber es behandelt Nutzer eher als Menschen und nicht als Datenquelle.

Nun, Mike Kuketz hat hier nur zwei dinge vergessen:

1. Android (hier meist als „ändräut“ geschrieben), das genau so eine schlimme enteignungs- und technikverhinderungskrüppelscheiße wie windohs und mäcOS ist. Guhgell ist keinen deut besser. Wenn man ein neues wischofon kriegt, darf man erstmal hilflos drauf rumwischen und alles abstellen, was man nicht will — oder die gewährleistung verlieren, weil man eine andere softwäjhr auf dem kompjuter ausführen will, den man mit teuer geld gekauft hat.
2. Die BRD-zwangsschulen, in denen den kindern regelmäßig windohs oder mäcOS aufgezwungen wird oder aufgezwungen werden soll. Der letzte derartige fall, mit dem ich am rande zu tun hatte, endete erst, als strafanzeige gegen den schulleiter wegen des verdachts auf vorteilsnahme erstattet wurde. Da hat er erst zurückgezogen, eher er ein ganzes gymnasium in die äppel-falle schmeißt — auf kosten der eltern und der digitalkompetenzen der schüler, versteht sich.

Die scheiße wird den menschen aufgezwungen, und zwar überall. Und seit jahren wird die scheiße scheibchenweise immer mieser und immer reklamehaltiger und immer wanzenhafter gemacht. Von der krüppelscheiße mit der so genannten „künstlichen intelligenz“, die sie gerade überall dranflanschen, will ich da gar nicht erst anfangen. Damit erzieht man geradezu dumme, abhängige und digitaltechnisch völlig inkompetente nutzerys.

Noch ein tipp von mir, aus erfahrung: nehmt kein unbuntu, wenn ihr linux nehmt, sondern nehmt eine distri, die funkzjoniert. Die völlig unreife und dysfunktionale snäpscheiße, die einem bei unbuntu hinterhältig reingedrückt wird, sorgt zu oft für probleme. Ist dann halt scheiße, wenn der passwortmänätscher nicht mehr mit dem webbrauser zusammenarbeitet, der als snäp daherkommt. Klar, kann man sich alles zurechtfummeln und sich ganz viele paketkwellen eintragen, aber wer nicht fummeln will und einfach nur einen funkzjonierenden kompjuter benutzen will, sollte besser einen bogen um unbuntu machen. Und wer keine angst vor einer manchmal etwas rauheren erfahrung mit einem unixoiden betrübssystem hat, ist bei BSD sowieso besser aufgehoben.

I still can't even that my now nearly 80 year old mom has been on Fedora on a thinkpad e520 (2011) for a decade and it all just works.

I checked her laptop just now and it's fully up to date on fedora 43, so she's done like 20 version upgrades autonomously too. The battery has degraded a little but the whole thing still works fine and she's very happy with it.

This is how things should be, this is peak computing tbh.
