I've got a HP Elitedesk 800 G5 with Core i7 CPU and 32 GB Ram. How do you guys handle load shedding situation? I have a mini ups for the Router and ONU and a 650V one for the mini pc. I don't think it will give me more than 20 minutes backup. Should I gracefully shutdown after 10-15 minutes when electricity is gone and automatically boot up when electricity is back?

Does anyone here run a fully encrypted installation and can share their experiences? Going for a full installation with encrypted pools looks like a likely variant... :thinking_rotate:

Summer is almost over again so I can eke out a bit of time for some writing.

Thinking about abandoning Windows or Mac for Linux?

          Not sure where to start?

I've written down some concepts, thoughts, and recommendations.

I found this screenshot again and I still think it's brilliant. The best OS overview I've ever read.

Screenshot of a Reddit comment saying this:
Time for my OS opinion that's guaranteed to be unpopular with someone...
Sun Solaris used to be the OS that required overpriced proprietary hardware and still couldn't compete with Linux. That OS is now MacOS.
MacOS used to be the colorful and friendly walled garden OS that your non-techie parents would enjoy but was completely useless to you as a power user. That OS is now Windows.
Windows used to be the OS that could run a lot of apps, but was a headache to setup and maintain correctly and would sometimes blow up for no reason. That OS is now Linux.
Linux used to be the techie and developer oriented command-line OS that was lacking in desktop apps and might not support your hardware, but once you got it going, was rock solid and had no limits. That OS is now FreeBSD.

                    • Schnellstart / Fast startup deaktivieren.

Linux Mint is often shilled as a lightweight distro that runs great on older hardware. Well, turns out the Cinnamon Desktop actually requires a certain amount of GPU performance to render smoothly.

On my old laptop Intel HD Graphics 4000, the entire Desktop only runs at ~30 FPS. The Xfce/MATE Editions run flawlessly.

I didn't expect that from Cinnamon. Even KDE Plasma ran better.

6.18 Will Further Complicate Non- Out-Of-Tree
A patch queued up for Linux 6.18 merge window removes . In turn this will cause issues for out-of-tree file-systems for writing dirty data from the page cache. After the and in-tree users of the iterator were moved off of it, for Linux 6.18 the "write_cache_pages" will be removed that is depended upon by out-of-tree, non-GPL file-systems.

I have a build of working just nicely against next-20250911. You know, the one with the "Linux hates out-of-tree filesystems" change slated for 6.18, that is filling my DMs today.

This is not magic or heroism, just looking at the changes, thinking for a while, and doing the work. It took a morning.

Don't be sucked in by the noise and nonsense. Instead, trust that we've got your back, and are working hard to give you a filesystem that you can trust to take care of your data long into the future.

                          I'll also take a tip, if you're offering 💚
