Do you also want contribute to the Open Source movement?
Don't know where to start?

  • write a new program in
  • C++
  • rust
  • Python
  • goLang
  • hunt for bugs and submit patches in existing programs
  • choose any OS you like freeBSD openBSD netBSD Linux (win64 is fine is you work mostly there) to code for

You can't write programs (yet)?

  • We need translators of programs, many programs dont have enough locale translators for languages used in projects you also use
  • Interfaces to contribute are easy to follow

Want one easy example?

You must (have) use(d) google voice
It's getting enshittified (makes more and more mistakes) and is NOT opensource

Common Voice by Mozilla

  • Common Voice is Open Source
  • I contribute there (years)
  • You need a only phone
  • I contribute in three languages (ES NL UK EN)

Don't just use Open Source software CONTRIBUTE!

Make the movement more powerful!

Fresh air with X: GhostBSD switches from X.org to XLibre

Because development on the X.Org display server is rather stagnant, GhostBSD is switching to its fork XLibre with the upcoming version 26.01.

that there is a command "units" for units conversion exists. In the world it was appeared in the then ported to the 2.2.0, according to the "History" section in the manpage.

At least, for now I known that 19 liters equals to 30.89 vodka bottles, or 154.47 charkas (чарок, от «чарка»), or 308.94 shkalikoff (шкаликов, от «шкалик»), or 1.55 vёder (вёдер, от «ведро»).

Conversion rules lives in the simple text file in the /usr/share/misc/definitions.units and the own rules could be written in some text file in the same manner.

A stritcly free distribution would need to be an or distribution in the long run. AFAIK, the Linux itself might have some AI assisted code already. They have a strict disclosure policy, though:

The removal of TrueNAS legacy (CORE) leaves space for a tenth button.

                    What would you like?

The button need not be FreeBSD-specific. Discussions frequently attract users of other systems.

The sidebar of r/freebsd is crowded (very tall), and this cluster of buttons is relatively far down, so I doubt that it will gain much attention. Still, cafe community thoughts are welcome.

                    Three screenshots:

                    1. an overview of <reddit.com/r/freebsd/top/?sort> before removal of the TrueNAS button

                    2. the entire sidebar as represented at <sh.reddit.com/r/freebsd/about/>

                    3. focus on the other sub shortlist, and the other shortlist, within the sidebar.

                    Thanks.

If you are in tech or interested and have not yet been to a regional conference, I would recommend you consider going to one.

A short description of the three major ones can be found in my recent piece "What is BSD? Come to a conference to find out!" nxdomain.no/~peter/what_is_bsd (G-tracked bsdly.blogspot.com/2025/11/wha). Fun fact: I'll be at all three this year

You have to check support for the big three BSDs, because they're not the same. NetBSD supports the most architectures, but sadly has the least polish, due to resource constraints (human and financial).

But yes, x86_64 is usually the best bet with the BSDs, or at least x86. For other machines, you should investigate support on a case-by-case (and BSD-by-BSD) basis.

I haven't tried #BSD on anything but x86_64 so far.
