Past proposals for strict rules on #renewableenergy certificates have been dropped after heavy lobbying, draft shows
A previous draft in March stipulated that #datacenters could only offset #fossilfuel #emissions by investing in #cleanenergy certificates from projects commissioned in the past decade that produced power in roughly the same time and place as the #datacentre.

@SophiaFree #AI uses less water than almonds. AI #datacenter water problems are a local water use issue or a "giant construction project" issue. They are not a global environmental issue.

#Carbon and #energy issues do not _yet_ exist. Research has suggested that they will be enormous issues in the future _if_ the rate of datacenter expansion continues on its current trajectory.

Anyone who believes that AI is a #bubble can not simultaneously believe it'll destroy the environment.

It is, however, more ethical and sustainable to run smaller (open weight) AI models at home on home servers or powerful personal computers.
