How much money is #Harvard saving by this "restructuring"? I can think of SO many other ways this wealthier-than any other academic institution (a 55 billion dollar endowment) could have cut its expenditures. If this decision isn't a middle finger specifically to the humanities but to all disciplines that require writing (so that's all disciplines, STEM included) I don't know what is. What a terrible, short-sighted, #AI lovin' move.

I don't just mean #libraries that hold books, I mean digital #archives. Not compute centers, long term #storage centers. We are already losing access to early digitized information, because we dove into this business without forethought for the future of human #education and knowledge.

My colleagues at @univention in Germany have started rolling out a digital workspace for 80,000 teachers, built exclusively on Open Source. It clearly shows, that you don't need big tech to build a productive education environment.
