One of the reasons why Fediverse is awesome, even those with negligible internet are able to participate with most features except many video platforms and loading images can be problematic.
So sending a shout out goes to those wonderful alt texters and people willing to spend a few moments summarizing a video clip.

It looks like the Snabelen.no instance may need some fixes or updates.

Whether I was using bsd.cafe, kolektiva.social, or social.linux.pizza, I couldn’t see any previous posts from @nsf_iaa.

Is this an issue with Snabelen.no’s instance configuration, or is there something else preventing older posts from being federated?

So now I need to move my #homelab. And I have two options:

1. Migrate #Mastodon reverse proxy from #nginx to #caddy (no documentation on this around the internet except uncertain assumptions).
2. Pay x4 for the internet for a business plan, where I’ll be able to rent more than one static IP.

So the question is do you, dear #mastoadmin, have a working example of Caddy config for Mastodon?

I hope I don't get in trouble for sharing this publicly, but I managed to get my hands on the detailed design docs that everyone is using for their big UI redesigns of late.

Mastodon runs so much better without Docker and it wasn't any harder to setup.

⚠️ Hinweis an andere #Fediverse-Admins: Wir sehen gerade eine auffällige Welle automatisierter Fake-Anmeldungen.

Muster:
* Zufallsnamen wie `FadRuwir`, `IpybVoxem`, `FaquCorar`
* Wegwerf-Maildomains wie `qaoloty.com`, `2mail.co`, `onionmail.org`
* auffällig viele Tor-/Proxy-Verbindungen
* 0 Beiträge, 0 Follower
* generische Bewerbungstexte wie „Ich möchte Teil der deutschsprachigen Community werden …“

I finally re-found this study I read a few months ago, that deserves a lot more attention. It is, in fact, the main reason we should be moving away from big-tech social media: it shows more right-wing content than left-wing content, no matter the political leaning of the user.

@calaad

> Un des problèmes actuels de Deltachat, c'est la centralisation de fait. Un peu tout le monde choisi le serveur "nine.testrun.org"

that was just an intermediate step, nine.testrun.org was offered as a stable relay, choosing randomly could end up in using a poorly maintained relay that got abandoned and then you or your family would be left like "Delta Chat doesn't work anymore"

anyways, good news! finally since the release 2.62.0 nine.testrun.org is no longer the hard-coded relay! now 3 random relays are chosen and used! so if one goes down the others will be used without ending up with a dead relay, and further improvements will come in this area, as replacing relays that stopped working automatically, learning new relays from the ones used by your peers etc.

so in fact Delta Chat right now is at the peak of #decentralization, way above #Matrix, #XMPP, #Mastodon and any other decentralized platform, because it is not only decentralized but it is "multi-homing", in other decentralized platforms if your server dies your profile is lost and you have to start all over, in #DeltaChat you can have several home servers at the same time and even replace them on the fly while keeping all your chats, contacts, messages, groups, channels, etc. your profile lives in your devices, not in any server

The End of the Fediverse

It all comes down to money and availability.

You, whether you like it or not, are a valuable resource, and so is all your content and your users' content. There is no law preventing AI from combing through your site, and it will.

Meta's AI already makes micro-instances and uses Mozilla Firefox to browse sites, preventing people from blocking a user agent. Their AI can even register and join your community, and CAPTCHAs are not a problem. They are already exploring piggybacking off their apps — think Tor, but for Meta — and soon even consumer IPs will not be a safe bet.

Resistance is futile.

Locking down the Fediverse means people cannot know if your community is one where they will be welcomed until after they join — assuming you even have registration open.

If worse comes to worse, AI can simply launch their own Fedi site, joining the network, and scraping content by Federating. The very thing that makes the Fediverse, the Fediverse..

This is what killed community forums. We are seeing this now within the Fediverse.

It all came down to money and availability: who has it and who does not.

@Snuggle2476 Well, that is applicable not for every #selfhosted service. There are projects out there that are rock solid, reliable, and don’t aim to stuff as many features as possible into themselves in the shortest amount of time. For example, I host #Mastodon as a primary social network and #Immich as a primary photo library.
