Heute habe ich das erste Mal die Formulierung gelesen, daß das Fediverse/Mastodon „gemeinschaftlich betrieben“ wird.

Diese Wortwahl finde ich gerade für Einsteiger*innen viel besser, weil sie mir eingängiger und greifbarer erscheint, als „dezentral“ oder „föderiert“.

Ich werd zukünftig den Ausdruck „gemeinschaftlich betrieben“ bevorzugen, wenn ich Menschen das erste Mal vom Fediverse oder von Mastodon erzähle.

Wie siehst Du das? Hast Du in diesem Zusammenhang andere Formulierungen, die helfen? („gesellschaftsschonend“ fällt mir da zum Beispiel noch ein.)

@staff I really am a supporter of free speech and free expression, but I *really* wish you would ban people posting homosexual pornography on your instance.

Gay pride is not about publishing gay pornography.

And it's especially a real pity because mastodon.social is a big instance and pretty central to the Mastodon corner of the Fediverse.

I really do not want to block your whole instance. But it's a real nuisance trying to Limit those accounts.

If people want to publish pornography of whatever kind, they really should join or create focused instances for that.

Don't we want to cultivate a more "family-friendly" environment that will attract a bigger public?

Uncensored pornography on Free Open Source Software networks is precisely what "Big Tech" points at when they say that only corporate social tools are child-safe. And yet we *know* that it's not the case.

It's already a certain workload moderating a Mastodon instance.

If we don't sandbox pornography, when why don't we allow gore and other offensive content?

I actually did a some six weeks of training as a moderator for Meta, so I do have some personal knowledge of the range of content you could be exposed to if nobody moderates anything.

The arbitrary limits in #Mastodon are a little infuriating.

And I really want to like Mastodon. It was my first experience on the #fediverse, and I actually like the UI/UX, for the most part.

I'm using the extended web interface of the Mastodon instance I'm on. This allows for multiple columns with different content. I created one column to follow hashtags, by searching for a hashtag and then selecting "pin" in the column in which it shows the resulting posts. This column offers the option to include additional hashtags, and then I get a field where I can enter additional hashtags I'd like to show up there (see screenshot).

I can enter four additional hashtags by entering the name of the hashtag and pressing enter. If I enter a fifth one, when I press enter it just disappears. It doesn't stick.

So apparently this is limited to a maximum of five hashtags per hashtag column.

This feels like a bug to me, or a rather arbitrary limitation that doesn't make a lot of sense. Before I create a bug report, I was going to ask, is this normal? Is this deliberate? Is it a feature? Or is it indeed a bug?

For reference, the current Mastodon version on this instance is 4.5.13.

Got a question for you #Mastodon - what is the ethics of creating an account here for a #podcast I really like? I've had a crazy thought of creating an account for the "In Our Time" podcast on #BBC. I enjoy it every week and thought it would be an interesting way of adding some interesting material to the #Fediverse.

I've had the idea since the BBC's experiment here in the Fediverse. I am convinced that it would have been more successful if they had created accounts for select programs and journalists, not the stations (which are too broad for a platform that encourages niches).

Good idea? Bad idea? Couldn't care less?

Does one get permission, even if I plaster the account with "JUST A FAN ACCOUNT" or "NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE BBC"?
