Who knows your profile knows your preferences. Who knows your preferences can steer you. This is not democracy. It's control sold as "personalization."

Meta Platforms said it agreed to pay up to $18 billion in landmark settlements to resolve social media claims from U.S. states that would require it to make major changes to how it operates platforms like Instagram. japantimes.co.jp/business/2026

Looks to me like Meta has calculated how much looked like a good settlement & has paid it primarily to keep the evidence that was going to be appearing in the court case about harming children to some extent out of the public eye, or at lest keep it from being exposed in a legal proceeding.

Many may see this as a victory, but it looks like one more twist & turn to swerve real change & responsibility, to me....

I've followed the instructions here to the letter and have moved my account with success to another server.

The standard instructions of mastodon were already clear. This guide shines in emphasizing the extra important steps

        Thank you

The Three Screens That Made Us Still Part II

Where television demanded passive reception of whatever the broadcaster chose, and social media delivered personalized content optimized for maximum dwell time, the adaptive learning systems promised something different: personalized education tailored to individual needs. Yet the mechanism remained surveillance. The system watched.

Mom knows her child... or thinks she does.
📊 Meta KNOWS it better, through data, tracking, algorithms. They know more about your child than yourself, and use this knowledge to keep them hooked to their platform.

                  That's not normal.

"Brain rot is profitable because, as users are dumbed down and made lazy, they come to depend more on chatbots to function in their jobs and personal lives"
