        @rl_dane The big issue I have with is it's long-winded. Man, there is just so much typing for basic tasks. As cryptic as bash is at least it's succinct.

        While I want to acknowledge 's efforts to bring shell scripting to the ecosystem, they definitely missed the point on , , and . It really seems like Microsoft abandoned while developing it.

                looked into #yellowkey a little bit more after someone on github said to me it is unrelated to ntfs transactions.

                fstx.dll is a new component (introduced in Germanium), part of the servicing stack.

                WinPE also has an additional new component, autofstx.exe, as the auto*.exe name suggests it's a native executable run by smss via BootExecute registry entry, and code inside the executable shows it will only run inside WinPE.

                autofstx does load fstx.dll and calls a bunch of functions there including a func that parses the stuff in the FsTx directory, etc. not sure what it's doing but i'm sure that's the binar that ends up deleting a file specified in the FsTx files by full NT path.

                SxS manifests for autofstx refer to it as name "Boot-time FsTx Update Recovery Utility" and description "This utility recovers failed FsTx updates at boot-time. (CmdLine) (Core) (All pieces)".

                      hi everyone

                      given one #bitlocker #0day is already out there, here's my own bitlocker 0day, I added it to my repo listing bitlocker attacks.

                      As we all know, the boot environment allows booting from a ramdisk. This involves loading a file from disk into RAM, as expected.

                      However, "file" and "disk" can be arbitrarily chosen, and "disk" being a BitLocker encrypted partition is a supported scenario. Using another trick (same one used with bitpixie earlier) it's possible to get the keys derived without going through the legacy integrity validation checks too if relevant.

                      You can see where this is going. It's possible to leak any file from a bitlocker encrypted OS partition into RAM as long as you can get the keys derived (ie, TPM-only scenario).

                      The catch is that booting into the NT kernel marks that memory area as free so it could get overwritten there, but there are other ways to dump the memory area, and a PoC is included with my preferred method (it's only a PoC so just displays a hexdump of the first sector of the file)

                      The video shows successful exploitation in my test VM, it has secure boot enabled (you can tell because VMware shows an efi shell option on the boot menu when secure boot is disabled).

                                M.M. ist Deine Einschätzung etwas unsachlich, mit Deinen Usecases bewegst Du Dich m.E. in der Nische, das ist nicht der Mainstream. Der Großteil der PC User (also die mit Mail, Internet, Office) ist mit Linux bestens bedient. Die korrekte Einschätzung wäre m.E. wohl: "Windows ist ein OS für die Nische, unterstützt aber bestimmte Professionen und Hobbies besser als Linux".

                                        @Krisuuu Ich bediene mich seit 30 Jahren aus beiden Welten, für Arbeit, Hobby und Privates, Ende der 1990er kam die apple Welt mit einem iPad Pro mit Stift dazu, für mobiles Skizzieren. Ich neige dazu für die jeweilge "Aufgabe" das für mich geeignete setting selbst auszuwählen, statt mich auf einen Lösungsanbieter zu beschränken, dann muss man immer irgendwelche Kompromisse eingehen. Aber ich will auch weg von , deswegen ist Windows für mich kein Thema mehr.

                                                    Grundsätzlich habe ich NICHTS gegen ein Betriebssystem mit eingebauter AI. Aber es muss lokal laufen, darf nicht nach Hause telefonieren und sollte nicht halluzinieren. In meinen Augen ist das noch Zukunftsmusik und es gibt keine erschwingliche Hardware für private Nutzer um leistungsfähige Modelle darauf laufen zu lassen.

                                                      I see it in my own English family and friends. They’re all on , , , . They use it on a daily base. The only messengers in use are and Facebook messenger.
                                                      I tried to bring them over to use or instead. No success at all. Not one single contact moved to one of these. Even not as a 2nd option.
                                                      I asked them to try instead of Twitter. instead of Facebook. instead of Instagram. instead of TikTok. No chance. Even the argument that they don’t need to use all of these platforms as they’re all part of the and users on different platforms can interact with each other didn’t work.

                                                      Also they’re all using . Only one is trying to use now. Stick on the known things seems to matter more than .

                                                              Allmählich kippt bei mir die Stimmung gegen : Da ich für 2 Programme benötige, bin ich auf ein DualBoot System angewiesen: Igendetwas (TM) zerschießt mir aber seit Tagen den Bootloader: Trotz unzähliger Reparaturversuche (u.a. Boot Repair) gelingt es mir nicht, sauber zu starten. Solange es also Software gibt, die nur unter Windows läuft, brauche ich mir über Linux keine Gedanken machen.
                                                              Und "Nein":
                                                              Es gibt für die beiden Lexware-Programme keine Alternativen.
