My BoxyBSD project gets a new & modern look

It finally happened and my BoxyBSD has a new and more modern website! The old design was fine, but to be honest, it was a bit too geeky and only spoke to a small niche of users. It was something for people who were already deep into BSD, networking, and the command line world. That is perfectly okay, but BoxyBSD always had a bigger goal. It should also attract beginners who want to learn, test, and explore without feeling overwhelmed or afraid of trying something new.
Reasons for the new design

With the new design, I wanted to make the website cleaner, easier to navigate, and more welcoming. It should feel simple and clear. No distractions, no barriers. Just a place where anyone can create a free BSD instance and start experimenting. Whether it is FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, smolBSD, or one of the many other variants, the goal is to give users a real system with a static and public IP address that can be used for real-life testing and learning.
BoxyBSD’s Missions keeps the same

The mission of BoxyBSD has not changed. It remains about providing free VPS instances based on BSD systems for everyone who wants to learn, experiment, or understand open-source technologies better. When I started my own journey, I often had problems getting access to real systems. Payment options, country barriers, or simply the lack of money made it difficult. This should never stop anyone from learning. BoxyBSD tries to fix that. Of course, BoxyBSD remains free as a non-profit project.
The new website is another small step in that direction. It keeps the same values but brings a fresh look that feels more open and friendly. Learning and exploring BSD should be easy, accessible, and fun for everyone.
Sounds interesting? You can find more about the project here. There’s also a recording of my presentation in 2024 or you can simply browse the slides. If you’re interested which great impacts this project had to the Proxmox ecosystem, you can find a longer post about the benefits here.
